The Mini-BOOSTER project was a scientific initiative funded by the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA) and the science experiments flown were built by the Swedish Institute of Space Physics in Kiruna. The campaign intended to investigate how infrasound travels in the atmosphere and how to detect sources (both natural and industrial) of infrasound. Three balloons, each carrying two payload units equipped with microphones were launched at the same time, aimed to fly in formation at float altitude. During the flight, surface detonations were executed by a mining company in Kiruna to generate a known source of infrasound.
This was the first time that multiple balloons were launched at the same time and flown simultaneously from ESRANGE.
